# Pagerless vs Opsgenie

> An honest side-by-side, with sources. Where Opsgenie is the better fit, we say so.

Opsgenie is Atlassian's alerting and on-call tool. Its sale ended on June 4, 2025, and it shuts down on April 5, 2027; Atlassian moves customers to Jira Service Management or Compass. It is built for existing Atlassian customers only; new sign-ups are closed. Pagerless is on-call for people who build apps, often with AI: it decides whether a problem should wake you, explains what broke in plain words, and gets the fix ready for one tap.

> **Status:** End of sale June 4, 2025. End of support and shutdown April 5, 2027; data not migrated by then is deleted.

## Side by side

| Feature | Pagerless | Opsgenie |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Free plan | You + 1 backup, 3 apps, no card | Listed but closed to new customers: up to 5 users, 100 SMS for the account, no voice |
| Paid | Team planned: per alert sent, no per-seat price (not open yet) | Essentials: $9.45 per user per month billed annually (existing customers only) |
| Phone and SMS | Phone calls through your own Twilio at Twilio's price; no SMS | Essentials: 100 SMS or voice per user in the US and Canada, 25 elsewhere |
| Schedules and rotations | No: an escalation order (you, then your backup) | Yes |

## What Pagerless does differently

- **Decides how loud to be.** Wake, tell or log for every problem; four floors (app silent, crash loop, 5xx burst, payments failing) always wake someone, and an unsure decision is never quieter than tell.
- **Explains what broke.** Every problem gets a plain-words diagnosis from the scrubbed samples and recent deploys.
- **Gets the fix ready.** Undo the update, restart or add capacity on 20+ hosts with one tap and Face ID.
- **Sets up in one command.** `npx pagerless connect` finds services, jobs and AWS alarms in your repo.

## Choose Opsgenie if

- You are moving to Jira Service Management anyway and want alerting inside it.
- You still have time on a contract and need nothing new before April 2027.

## Choose Pagerless if

- You need a replacement that isn't tied to Jira.
- You are a solo developer or small team that used Opsgenie's free plan.
- You want AI diagnosis and one-tap undo, not just routing.

## Moving from Opsgenie to Pagerless

1. **Step 1** Export your Opsgenie teams, escalations and integrations before April 5, 2027.
2. **Step 2** Run `npx pagerless connect` in each repo; CloudWatch alarms move by pointing their SNS topic at Pagerless.
3. **Step 3** Set the escalation order: you, then your backup.
4. **Step 4** Run both for a week, then remove the Opsgenie integrations.

## Questions

### Is Pagerless a good Opsgenie alternative?

For one person or a small team that wants to be woken only when it matters, yes: it is free for you and a backup, calls through your own Twilio and offers one-tap undo. For large teams that need rotations and schedules, Opsgenie fits better today.

### Does Pagerless have on-call schedules?

Not yet. Each app has an escalation order: you first, then your backup after 5 minutes without an answer.
